An Update on Our Partnership with Alexandre Family Farm and Our Commitment to You
February 1, 2026
Dear Valued Jimbo’s Customers,
We are writing to address the serious animal welfare accusations that have recently been brought forward regarding one of our valued dairy partners, Alexandre Family Farm.
As a retailer committed to offering products that meet high standards of quality, integrity, and ethical sourcing, we take these allegations with the utmost seriousness. Our relationship with you, built on trust and transparency, is our top priority, and we understand you may have questions and concerns about the dairy products you purchase from our stores.
Our Investigation and Findings
Upon learning of the accusations, which involve alleged systematic cruelty and deception, we immediately initiated a thorough review of our partnership with Alexandre Family Farm. This process has included:
Internal Review:
A deep dive into all available documentation and our sourcing standards.
Engagement with Alexandre Ownership:
Direct communication with the Alexandre family and management to discuss the allegations, review their responses, and confirm the corrective actions they are taking.
Consultation with The Cornucopia Institute:
We have been in contact with The Cornucopia Institute, an independent organic industry watchdog known for its research and auditing, to gain a deeper, more objective understanding of the situation and the systemic challenges within the organic dairy certification landscape.
Through this extensive process, we have confirmed that a number of significant animal welfare and organic standards violations were substantiated by an investigation from the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP). While Alexandre Family Farm has acknowledged some wrongdoing and claims to be continuing to implement and update corrective measures, the concerns raised by multiple advocacy groups and a pending legal case remain complex and serious.
We do not pretend to understand the situation completely, there are many sides involved.
While the full details regarding the allegations against Alexandre Family Farms remain under review, including current litigation, we view these reports with an extremely high level of concern. Although the validity of the claims is currently inconclusive, our position on animal welfare is unwavering: no animal should ever be abused.
We believe that Alexandre Family Farms is ultimately the responsible party with regards to the welfare of their animals. While we continue to ask questions regarding the timeline of events, we acknowledge that they have taken appropriate responsive action, as best we can tell from the information provided from all sides we have access to. Alexandre Family Farms has assured us that they do not tolerate animal cruelty and have implemented enhanced safety protocols, including the assignment of dedicated Team Leaders to oversee animal welfare.
Despite the complexities and unknowns in this situation, our commitment to animal rights requires us to make decisions based on the current evidence and our unwavering standards for the ethical treatment and proper care of animals.
Our Decision: A Period of Probation
As we cautiously and respectfully honor our long-standing commitments and partnership to both Alexandre Family Farm and you, our customers, we have concluded that the path forward is one of probationary oversight.
Effective immediately, we are placing Alexandre Family Farm on a form of probation.
The length of that probation will be entirely dependent on the confirmed actions of the Alexandre Family, however, if no significant actions are confirmed to remedy the alleged abuses, after a period of 6 months, we will further evaluate a severance of the partnership.
This is not a decision we take lightly. It reflects a delicate balance: honoring our long-standing partnership while upholding our ethical standards and commitment of always doing our best to do the right thing, which means supporting brands that echo our commitments to people, animals, society, and our planet. This probationary period means:
Close Monitoring:
We will be watching developments at Alexandre Family Farm extremely closely. We require ongoing, substantive evidence of the implementation and effectiveness of their corrective action plans, as well as adherence to all applicable laws and standards.
Regular Benchmarking:
We will continue to engage with independent, third-party experts and watchdogs, including The Cornucopia Institute, to benchmark Alexandre Family Farm’s progress against industry best practices, not just minimum standards.
Future Re-evaluation:
Our purchasing relationship will be continuously re-evaluated. Any failure to demonstrate sustained compliance will result in further action, up to and including the permanent discontinuation of their products from our stores.
Suspension of New Item Submissions:
During this probationary period, we will not be evaluating any additional products for placement in our stores.
Your Right to an Informed Decision
Our commitment to transparency means we want you to have all the information necessary to make your own purchasing decisions.
We understand that some of you may choose to temporarily or permanently stop purchasing Alexandre Family Farm products, and we fully support that decision. Others may wish to support the farm during this period of transition, believing in their commitment to make things right. Our goal is to provide you with the clearest possible picture so that you may cast your vote in the marketplace as you see fit.
We encourage all interested customers to review the extensive public information available from advocacy groups such as Farm Forward and Legal Impact for Chickens, as well as reports from the USDA NOP and analyses from The Cornucopia Institute. We have also made a statement from Alexandre Family Farms available, in response to the accusations brought against them. As stated, Alexandre Farms has been a valued partner. While we don’t condone any of the violations our hope is that Alexandre Farms makes all the necessary changes to ensure that going forward this will not happen again and that we will be able to confidently remove them from the probationary status without any reservations.
We are dedicated to remaining a source of high-quality, ethically-sourced food, and we appreciate your patience and trust as we navigate this challenging situation. We will provide updates as new developments occur.
