Human Resource Coordinator


General Purpose: Assist the Store Manager and Department Managers with recruitment, selection, and training of new and existing employees; act as a resource for employee generated grievances or questions; assist Managers with disciplinary action when needed; mediate conflicts between employees when appropriate; and carry out projects/tasks assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of staffing (recruiting, selection, and hiring, leave of absence, and terminations).
  • Oversee orientations and trainings for all non-exempt employees.
  • Manage the administrative HR functions for all non-exempt employees (ranges 1-4).
  • Properly handle employment verification inquires.
  • Schedule and facilitate Customer Service, Sex Harassment Prevention, Orientation/Safety and Brochure Training for all employees.
  • Train Department Managers and supervisory staff in HR components of their job, as necessary.
  • Listen to and mediate grievances and concerns between front line employees and management.
  • Assist Managers with disciplinary actions and employee performance evaluations.
  • Maintain OSHA compliance (safety program & logs), and handle work comp claims under the supervision of the Dir of HR.
  • Develop and administer employee reward and recognition programs.

Other Responsibilities:

  • As needed, proactively assist customers within the guidelines outlined in our Customer Service Standards.
  • Represent the company in unemployment hearings and workers’ compensation claims as necessary.
  • Serve as store counsel on matters of labor laws and human rights legislation and compliance.
  • Assist Store Manager and Department Managers in providing succession training.
  • Promote a positive, supportive atmosphere for employees to work and customers to shop.
  • Attend scheduled department meetings, managers meetings and all store meetings.
  • Adhere to all HR policies and store policies as outlined by the Dir of HR, the Staff Member Handbook and the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 1 year of retail management experience or 1 year of generalist HR experience.
  • Strong communication, listening, leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent human relation skills including: approachability, patience, neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism, as well as the ability to constructively address performance issues.
  • Facilitation and mediation skills.
  • Strong skills in organization, attention to detail and follow through.
  • Role model customer service skills.
  • Ability to travel between stores.
  • Able to organize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Must have intermediate math skills, and be computer literate with experience in Windows, Outlook Express, Word and Excel.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to hear and speak clearly to communicate with customers, vendors and staff.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend at waist and reach above shoulders and horizontally to retrieve files and supplies.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
