Jimbo’s…Naturally! Gets Silver from EPA’s GreenChill Partnership

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – January 21st, 2014 – Jimbo’s…Naturally! new 28,000 sq. ft. downtown San Diego Westfield Horton Plaza store earned the prestigious EPA GreenChill Silver Award.

With this achievement the store will cut its refrigeration emissions by 65%. Reducing refrigerant emissions is a significant step to helping our environment. GreenChill certified stores only use refrigerants that do not harm the earth’s ozone layer. Refrigerants have the potential to harm the ozone layer and contain greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change.

“Jimbo’s…Naturally! commitment to achieve GreenChill’s certification standards for its new store proves that the company is serious about its role in protecting the ozone layer and preventing climate change,” said Tom Land, Manager of EPA’s GreenChill Partnership. “It is important that companies understand that helping the environment has become the business model of the future.”

Jimbo’s…Naturally! Donates Over $23,000 to Connections Housing Downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – October 30th, 2013 – Jimbo’s…Naturally! held their Anniversary Sale on Saturday, October 19th at all locations. Customers received 5% off of their entire purchase and 5% of the entire day’s sales benefited Connections Housing Downtown San Diego. Customers also had the option of donating their 5% discount to Connections Housing. In addition, Jimbo’s new Westfield Horton Plaza location donated 5% of all its sales from October 16-18. Jimbo’s will proudly present a check in the amount of $23,528.85 to Connections Housing on Thursday, October 31st at 1pm at the Westfield Horton Plaza location.

Jimbo’s largest and newest location at Westfield Horton Plaza is 28,000 square feet with parking conveniently located on Level 4 of the G Street Garage with 85 “preferred” Jimbo’s parking spaces. Making it easy for shoppers, a cartveyor has been installed to move grocery carts from Level 2 to Level 4. The store’s theme pays respect to the history of downtown San Diego. A huge part of the store focuses on the prepared food selection and deli which offers an appealing option for those who live and work in downtown San Diego. There is also a made from scratch bakery, a refreshing juice bar and a large selection of wine and cheese. Also, exclusive to the store is a burrito station and wok bar providing exciting foods to order. At all times, the foods and juices prepared at Jimbo’s are made with organic ingredients whenever possible.

Jimbo’s local commitment to organic farming, schools and non-profit organizations continues to spread its roots into the downtown area and surrounding communities. Jimbo’s…Naturally! Opens Fifth Location at Westfield Horton Plaza

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – October 7, 2013 – Jimbo’s…Naturally! will open its doors at Westfield Horton Plaza on Wednesday, October 16 at 11am, becoming downtown San Diego’s first full service natural foods grocer. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place that morning at 10:30 with speakers to include Owner Jim “Jimbo” Someck, Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilmember Lori Zapf, Jerry Engen, Senior Vice President of Development for Westfield, and Roxane Helstrom, Director of Development for the Family Health Centers of San Diego.

Located on the second level at the Nordstrom end of the mall, this beautiful 28,000 square foot store will make it the largest Jimbo’s…Naturally! store. Parking is conveniently located on Level 4 of the G Street Garage with 85 “preferred” Jimbo’s parking spaces. Additionally, upon certification, Jimbo’s…Naturally! will be the first and only grocery store in San Diego to be LEED certified under the USGBC rating system for Retail Commercial Interiors.

Jimbo’s is best known for their incredible selection of local and organic produce, its commitment to GMO-free foods, as well as hormone-free beef, poultry and pork. A huge part of the store will focus on the prepared food selection and deli which will offer an appealing option for those who live and work in downtown San Diego. There will also be a made from scratch bakery, a refreshing juice bar and a large selection of wine and cheese. Also, new to the Jimbo’s store will be a burrito bar and wok station providing exciting foods to order. At all times, the foods and juices prepared at Jimbo’s are made with organic ingredients whenever possible.

Jimbo’s…Naturally! Named Diligent Dozen – Top 12 Grocer by ORCA

Diligent Dozen LogoThe Organic Retailer and Consumer Alliance (ORCA) named Jimbo’s…Naturally! as one of the top 12 GMO Right-to-Know Grocers, also known as the “Diligent Dozen”.

The “Diligent Dozen” winning stores are those grocers who are leading the natural food industry by working with manufacturers and local producers to transition to non-GMO ingredients and by advocating for GMO labeling.

Jimbo’s…Naturally! is honored to receive this recognition and hopes to inspire more retailers to follow suit.

Jimbo’s…Naturally! is one of the country’s pioneer Non-GMO grocer activists and organic advocates. The company has persuaded a number of manufacturers to remove suspect products from their foods, resulting in those companies either going organic or pursuing Non-GMO Project verification. Other stores have also contacted Jimbo’s…Naturally! for advice on going in the same direction.

Product Removal Process

Store products that were grandfathered in are being weeded out and replaced department by department. The company expects this process to be completed within 6-12 months. Sometimes products are dropped immediately, or offered only until there is a readily available replacement. Providing GMO-Free supplements is going to be challenging, the company said.

Labeling

Jimbo’s…Naturally! has several thousand Non-GMO Project labeled products on their store shelves. The stores are Non-GMO Project Participating Retailers, and Jimbo Someck is a member of the retail advisory board of the Non GMO-Project. Jimbo’s…Naturally! donated $10,000 to support Prop 37 in 2012.
